Quality Starts with Clear Requirements

For custom machined parts and mold inserts, inspection should address the features that matter to fit, function and assembly. Share your drawing revision, material specification and critical characteristics so that inspection and documentation requirements can be reviewed with your quotation.

Tolerances, surface requirements and acceptance criteria must be agreed for the individual part. A general capability statement does not replace the requirements on your approved drawing.

Inspection through the Manufacturing Process

Our quality-control approach covers incoming materials, checks during processing and final dimensional verification. The scope and records for your order should be confirmed before production.

Incoming Requirements

Identify the specified material grade and condition, drawing revision, and any required material documentation or traceability information.

In-Process Checks

Define the critical dimensions, datums and surface features that require attention during machining, including any checks needed before later operations obscure them.

Final Verification

Agree the dimensions and characteristics to be reported, the inspection quantity or sampling plan, and the acceptance criteria for delivery.

Measurement and Documentation

The measurement method should suit the feature, tolerance and accessibility of the part. Please highlight requirements for dimensional reports, material certificates, surface-finish measurements or other supporting records when requesting a quote. Availability and scope must be confirmed for the order.

For optical mold inserts, distinguish dimensional requirements from surface form, roughness and cosmetic requirements. Where optical performance or specialized metrology is required, specify the test method and acceptance limits for review.

What to Include with Your RFQ

  • Latest 2D drawing and 3D model, with revision and units
  • Material grade, heat treatment and surface-finish requirements
  • Critical dimensions, datums, fits and mating-part considerations
  • Order quantity and any first-article or sample approval requirements
  • Inspection report format, sampling plan and traceability needs
  • Required certification, packaging, marking and delivery requirements

Questions to Resolve before Production

Can every feature be inspected in the same way?

No. Size, geometry, access and tolerance determine the suitable measurement method. Identify critical features early so that their inspection can be reviewed.

Will an inspection report be included?

Please specify the report and measurements you need with your enquiry. The agreed order scope should state which records will be supplied.

What if a requirement cannot be met as drawn?

Any proposed change to material, dimensions, finish or acceptance criteria should be reviewed and approved before it is incorporated into the order.

Discuss Your Part and Inspection Requirements

Send your drawings and quality requirements for project-specific review.
